Twistleton Scar Geology Walk - with Mike Farrington

Part of the Overground Underground Festival

Sunday 3rd June; Free, bring packed lunch

11.00am - 4.00pm (approx)

Join Mike Farrington in a guided walk from Broadrake to Twistleton Scar and back via Ellerbeck. Not only will we be taking a 340 million year journey through time but we will walk through warm shallow tropical seas to the "criminally cold" Ice Ages.

Enjoy lunch on top of Twistleton Scar with long views down into the valley of Chapel-le-Dale.

If visibility is poor we will do a lower level walk via the Old Hill Inn and Ribblehead. Bring a packed lunch, stout footwear, warm and waterproof clothing as necessary. Finish the day with tea and homemade cakes at Broadrake.

Mike Farrington started his lifelong interest in geology and geography on family day trips in the area back in the 1960's. By the 1970's he was camping and caving in the area and at university his student degree project was mapping Chapel-le-Dale and Ingleborough. After a career as a geology and geography teacher he now lives locally in Horton in Ribblesdale.

All welcome, children to be accompanied by an adult, suitable for families, dogs must be on leads at all times. Unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies.
