Twistleton Scar Geology Walk

With Mike Farrington

An Overground Underground event in association Broadrake

Thursday 24th August; 10am - 4pm

Mike Farrington started what was going to become a life-long interest in geology and geography on family day trips walking in the area back in the 1960's. By the 1970's he was camping and caving in the area and at University, his student degree project was geological mapping Chapel-le-Dale and Ingleborough. After a career as a geology and geography teacher (which also included many field trips to this location), he now lives locally in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. He continues his life-long interest in geology and geography as he travels about Ribbledale, taking his small dog Tyke and his camera walking many miles amongst the Dales and rocks.

Join Mike Farrington in a guided walk from Broadrake to Twistleton Scar, via Ellerbeck and back. Not only will be we be taking a 340 million year journey through time but will walk through warm shallow tropical seas to the 'criminally cold' of the Ice Ages. If it is poor visibility we will do a lower level walk via the Old Hill Inn and Ribblehead.

Bring a packed lunch, wear stout footwear, and warm, waterproof clothing as necessary. Lunch on top of the edge of the scar with long views of Chapel-le-Dale.
Finish the day with tea and homemade cakes at Broadrake.
